Branding is Like a Vehicle That Gets You To Places
The Question Is, How Far Do You Want to Go?
Reading time: 3 minutes
Everyone’s setting goals and whatnot for the next three hundred and sixty something days, “New year, new me” yeah, but I’m more of a “new day, new mission, let’s go geddit” kinda guy. Set goals when you need them, not because a calendar flips over and fireworks pop off.
And some of you may be planning to pursue that business idea of yours this year, or you already have one and are thinking to relaunch or step your existing game up. Whichever category you fall into - props to you. And with that, I want to share a little bit about how branding can really elevate your business.
I was having a discussion the other day on Skool with a start-up business founder about the importance of branding and identity and thought to write about it because in all my years of interacting with businesses I've noticed that a lot of them overlook this aspect, and unfortunately they're not making an impact that lasts.
One thing I sometimes try and remind my clients is to imagine branding to be like a vehicle that allows you to reach your destination.
You can spend one or two hundred pounds or worse, rely on quick-fix “solutions” like AI or Fiverr 🤮. Yeah, you’ll get something, but that “something” will only get you so far and in all honesty, it won't do that great of a job. Just as you'd only get a limited amount of usage from a low-priced car that you bought for the same price.
That car will have faults, it won't be reliable, it won't accomodate your greater needs, you'd have to keep fixing it before every journey to ensure it doesn't break down mid-way. It's embarrassing to rock or turn up at events in and you definitely won't be impressing your future wife in that car. 🫠

Similarly, when you try and take shortcuts with your branding and design by resorting to inexperienced services that may not necessarily be qualified or they haven’t really taken the time to understand you and your business, then it'll have faults, nor would it be optimised for different usages, another designer may have to keep fixing it for each new deliverable that you need for your business. Inevitably it ruins your image, causes you frustration and it won’t aid you in your journey in building your brand.
And nor will your future wife be impressed by that either lol 🫠
Side note. I’ve had dozens of businesses tell me how they opted for Fiverr for their branding and it flopped. Story for another day.

Ironic because Jaguar did a mess recently with their rebrand lol

On the flip side. When you invest in a car which gets you from destination A to B and all the letters of the alphabet as you grow, it’s a comfortable drive, it has the ability to last 10 or more years (assuming your venture is successful through the years. I've designed some logos in 2013/2016/2017 which are still being used today), with minimal faults and repairs, if any at all. It’s everything you need.
This car, it makes a mark, it allows you to stand out amongst others and as time goes on, more and more people start paying attention. It becomes part of your identity.
Ultimately you get more out of it and it only benefits YOU because this car that you invested in was made this for YOU, your needs, your goals and your destination.

Me when I see businesses actually work with designers and creatives to build their brand identity and seeing them grow 🤝🏽🔥
This is what we aim to do with branding.
It's not just a fancy set of images to look at nor a bunch of photos, nor does it stop with videography or a website. It's an identity system that works for you, a long-term asset which makes you stand out and draws the right people to you. This is what I intended with the following three brands I worked on and here’s a tiny glimpse of how it looked:

So yeah, if you got that business idea that you’re thinking to kick-start or double down on this year, remember this: branding isn’t an expense. It’s an investment to your success and growth. 🚀
Make it count!!!
Looking forward to working with some of you guys in the future 💪

P.S. I’m revamping my Instagram. Expect more branding. More creativity and more of what I do to help my clients with their brands.
P.P.S. New digital products are coming soon!
